I’ve been meaning to share this for a while, but haven’t got around to it so now’s the time!

Some of you know that K E Coburn is my pen name. I decided to use one as I write contemporary romance under my real name of Katie Ginger (you can follow me and my romcom’s here: www.keginger.com) and not all my romance readers love cozies too. But how did I decide to use K E Coburn?

The surname Coburn is actually a name I discovered when I was researching my family history. It’s the branch of the family I’ve been able to go back the furthest with and belonged to my great-grandmother. She had a pretty hard time really. Her father was a Royal Marine and died just before she was born. Then she fell pregnant buy a soldier who didn’t return from WW1 and was shamed for having an illegitimate child. But despite all this, she was a lovely lady, and my mum was incredible close to her. When I researched and found her story, I just knew I had to use her surname in honour of this fearless, amazing lady!

Have you ever researched your family tree? What stories did you discover?
